    Sheirmilla Philoe prevails…

The fourth edition of the P6 Best Learner Award was held at SITE Auditorium and hosted by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister for Education and Human Resource Development Jeanne Simeon; Principal Secretary for Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education Odile De Commarmond; Principal Secretary for Tertiary Education and Human Resource Development Linda Barallon; Special Advisor Merida Delcy; Director General for Early Childhood and Primary Education Cyril Pillay, as well as other Ministry officials, head teachers and parents.

The award ceremony recognizes high achievers who have scored A* (a score of 90 and above) in the six subjects that are evaluated, as well as students who have scored the highest mark in each subject and the first three best overall performers.

Sheirmilla Philoe of Plaisance primary school was ranked as the top performer across State primary schools, with straight ‘A’s in all her subjects. She obtained a score of 86% for Social studies; 87% for English; 87% for Mathematics; 88% for Creole; 88% for Science and 89% for French. This gave her a grand total of 525 points out of a possible 600.

A number of 18 students received the high achievers award for scoring 90% and above or A* in various other subjects in the National Exams. They were all rewarded accordingly.

In her vote of thanks, Sheirmilla stated “ I want to thank the Government of Seychelles for giving us the access to free education. Many children around the world do not have this opportunity. Sadly, some of us do not always fully appreciate the value of learning and how fortunate we are. To these students, I say, let us learn to make the most of the opportunities we are given in life.”

Furthermore she urged her fellow colleagues to continue to take their studies seriously. “The opportunity is there for us to seize. We may not have been born with the same abilities, but with sacrifices, dedication and of course prayers, we can all aim high and succeed.”
