  • SIAD receives accreditation status from City & Guilds

The Seychelles Institute of Art and Design with the assistance of the Centre for Curriculum, Assessment and Teacher Support (CCATS) within the Ministry of Education is pleased to announce that it has recently been accredited by City & Guilds to offer international qualifications in Design and Craft for a period of two years. A City and Guilds approved Centre certificate was awarded to the Seychelles Institute of Art and Design and this is seen as an important milestone in the history of the institution.

Accreditation status means that our institution has met the City and Guilds criteria in the four areas of operation known as: management and administration systems, physical and staff resources, assessment and moderation procedures and quality assurance.

In 2015, SIAD submitted an application to City & Guilds requesting for approval to offer the above mentioned qualifications.

Qualifications approval were granted in February 2016 on the basis of information which SIAD submitted and a site visit conducted by external verifiers to assess the institute immediate work environment.

Hence, greater scope exists as of 2016 for students following a full time programme at Advanced Certificate level in Fashion and Textiles and who meet criteria to sit for the exam. Also, on offer is the Cambridge International GCE A Level Art and Design exam which is optional for candidates following a Diploma Programme.

As for the Fashion students, this qualification will better prepare them for the chosen craft industry and increase job opportunities. At this juncture, SIAD has found it imperative to diversify its option on offer with the aim of creating greater access to meet the needs of different learners. It will enable them to manage their time more effectively, develop problem solving skills, pay greater attention to details and increase the level of competency.

SIAD would like to thank the Ministry of Education, the Centre for Curriculum, Assessment and Teacher Support and the Secretariat for Professional Centres for their ongoing support.
