The Director of Seychelles Institute of Technology (SIT), Mr.
Hubert Barbé welcomed the Founder and Chancellor of Vellore Institute of
Technology (VIT) University Dr. G. Viswanathan from India on Friday 10th
November 2017 at the Providence campus.
This meeting was made possible following
recommendation from President’s Office
State House for the such meeting to happen. Following his arrival in
Seychelles, Friday afternoon, Dr. Viswanathan was driven staright from the
Airport to SIT providence and was welcomed by Mr. Barbé at around 3:30p.m for a
frutful meeting. Present for meeting, were other members of the SIT management also two representatives from the Agency for
Human Resource Development (ANHRD.)
Dr. Viswanathan was accompanied with Dr. C. Vijayakumar,
Director for International Relations at VIT.
During the discussion, Dr. Viswanathan wanted to find out
what the needs of SIT were and how VIT University could assist and work with the
Professional Centre. Dr. Viswanathan was
briefed on the mandate of SIT under the Tertiary Education Act 2011 and on its
vision as a TVET professional centre.
It was agreed that SIT could have its lecturers already qualified with a degree to
be trained to a master’s degree which would in turn enable the two institutions
to work in partnership to offer undergraduate level programmes, which could be
started at SIT and completed at VIT in India.
Dr. Viswanathan was to further discuss the proposition during his
meeting with President of the Republic on the following Saturday.
