Information on Bursaries and Maintenance Allowances

A. General Principles

The following are the general principles on which the scheme is based.

1. On completion of secondary schooling (S4 or S5) persons either enter the world of work or undertake further education or training. Taking the latter courses involves certain costs. These include tuition fees and other costs directly related to the course of study or training together with other related costs such as transport, uniform and living and maintenance costs.

2. The costs are borne, on behalf of the students, by the parents and/or the State. The State's contribution is related to the financial means of the parents.

Parents with incomes above a certain level are expected to pay the full cost for their child whilst parents with incomes inferior to that level are expected to pay a contribution commensurate with their income. In the latter case the State pays the difference between the full cost and the specified contribution through the award of a bursary. Some students receive a bursary which covers the totality of the cost.

3. A bursary is calculated on parental/guardians’ gross income. All applications must be submitted to the Director of the Seychelles Polytechnic, before the beginning of the academic school year.

4. Parents applying for a bursary who do not submit the required information for assessment of bursary entitlements will be required to pay the full school fees of the student.

5. Parents who expect to pay full school fees are not required to submit any supporting documents with their application forms.
